You're Unique.

Your college essay should be, too.

College Essay Creatives focuses on authentic voice.

At College Essay Creatives, we utilize a specialized methodology that facilitates a writing process, which is fun, challenging, and inspired. We work with each student to create an organic piece of writing that surprises the reader. College Essay Creatives is interested in unique storytelling and vision. Our approach opens a door into the writing of the College Essay by emboldening the student to explore a small aspect of themselves that is a reflection of the larger world.

We also work with students on their supplemental essays.

Hey Matthew!

I wanted to write to you and thank you for all the help and support you provided me on my college journey. I have received offers of admission to Berkeley, WashU, JTS, Brown, and Harvard among others, and I credit much of this to all your help in the writing process. You provided me with incredibly valuable insight into the application process and yours is the first name I will give if anyone ever asks for my advice in applying to college. — Meir R. (student)

The Process

College Essay Creatives’ methodology includes:

  1. Initial conversation with student over Zoom where we begin to get to know them. We discuss their interests such as music or food, and they share an impactful memory or experience.

2. Through the use of multi-media—video and music—share a writing prompt with the student to launch them into the composition of the essay.

3.  Students write the first draft of the essay.

4. We offer suggestions for revisions, and brainstorm with the student about what is working, what is not working, what needs to stay, and what needs to go.

5. Revisit. Refine.

6. Revisit. Refine.

7. Wrap up and finalize.

This process has no time limit. College Essay Creatives will work with the student until they are ‘finished’ with their essay and feel good about the process and the product.

About Us

Matthew Lippman, Founder

I have 25 years of experience working with high school juniors and seniors on their college essays.

My relationship to language, to facilitating a writing space for young people, is fueled by one primary precept: originality. The work that the students produce captures their personality, their essence, their spirit, and that is the primary purpose of the essay.

Additionally, I am a published poet with six books of poems. I have also won numerous awards for my writing. Some of these awards include: New York State Foundation for the Arts Grant, Michener Fellowship, Levis Prize for Poetry (Four Way Books), Patterson Prize for Poetry, and The Kathryn A. Morton Poetry Prize (Sarabande Books).
